In May 2018, we were certified to the international standards of ISO 9001 of quality management, ISO 14001 of environmental management and, among the first companies to get certified according to the new standards, of ISO 45001 of occupational health and safety management. Internationally recognized standards ensure that our services meet global customer needs.
“We were among the first companies to get certified to the new ISO 45001 occupational health and safety standard” – Pia Asikainen, Project Coordinator, VRT Finland
ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001 certificates
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) develops and publishes international standards, which are assessed by an external body. The ISO 9001 standard for quality management supports organizations to implement their own quality strategy, taking into account the challenges of the operating environment and the existing legislation and customer requirements. While managing business risks, the ISO 9001 standard ensures that customers are provided with consistently high-quality products and services.
According to ISO, ISO 14001 for environmental management is the world’s most well-known environmental management system model, which helps improve organizations’ environmental management and environmental protection procedures.
ISO 45001 helps organizations to improve the health and safety of workers, reducing workplace risks and creating healthier and safer working conditions globally.
Global standards and customer needs
With our growing markets in the Nordic countries, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK, we have always concentrated on international management requirements to answer to the latest quality standards and to changing customer needs. The ISO certificates assure that our company’s management system, environmental procedures and occupational safety policies have been qualified by the most comprehensive global standards.
– To ensure our position as the pioneer in the industry, we think it is important to take care of the high quality and efficiency of our services by improving our management systems – these are also important topics for our customers. Since our customers are also interested in environmental aspects and occupational safety, we naturally decided to include the environmental and safety standards in the certifying process, says Project Coordinator Pia Asikainen from VRT Finland.
In addition to ISO standards, VRT has acquired for example Achilles Utilities NCE qualification. Being a certified supplier has always been important part of communicating our skills and reliability even to the biggest operators in the infrastructure and energy business.
Presenting: Healthy and safe workplace with clear procedures
For the new certificates, we were especially interested in advancing more exact documentation procedures as well as in creating new evaluation criteria and objectives for different processes. Additionally, as the safety of our talented team is important for us, we were among the first companies to get certified to the new ISO 45001 occupational health and safety standard.
– During the preparation, the new ISO 45001 standard was published, so to stay at the forefront of our industry, we decided to get audited according to the new requirements. In all three standards, the basic principles are very similar, so it was natural to assemble all in the same handbook and deal with different areas – quality, environment and security management as a whole. As a small company we also wanted to keep the bureaucracy as light and flexible as possible, Asikainen continues.
Building future quality together
New ways of improving communication between different teams answer to the requirements of the standards while also improving the customer-experience. In the future, we see that the challenge is to develop management systems in the constantly changing operating environment of technology companies and to create the best supporting internal audit methods, but we are confident this can be achieved with the great work together with our whole team and customers!
