The upcoming weekend, about 15 000 orienteering enthusiasts gather together in the woods of Joensuu, located in the Eastern part of Finland. Jukolan viesti, Finland’s largest and most traditional orienteering relay race, has been organised ever since 1949 for both the top teams and the amateurs.
This year from VRT’s perspective, there’s something very exciting happening during the day-time orienteering relay race, Venlojen viesti. Our CEO, Kirsi Hänninen, is taking part of a team called Pummit Kadoksissa, which is a charity team, competing for the local orienteering club, Kalevan Rasti.
Kirsi – being a team player, sports enthusiast and an Olympic medalist herself – asked one of VRT’s cooperation partners Saana Vuorinen from KotkaHamina Port to join the charity team; the smooth cooperation is found not only at the workplace but now also in the woods. In addition to Kirsi and Saana, this dream team consists of two of world’s top women biathletes, Kaisa Mäkäräinen and Mari Laukkanen. What a thrilling team!
It goes without saying, that this weekend will be full of joy for team spirit, sports and orienteering. But how will our CEO survive holding a map instead of a hockey stick? VRT Finland is happy to follow the journey of Pummit Kadoksissa team on the spot and we’re excited to share it with you! We’ll update our Twitter account during this weekend, so follow us on Twitter @VRT_ltd and stay tuned!
