Port of Pietarsaari handles over million tons of goods annually, most significant items being pulp and paper industry products. The prime condition of infrastructure is essential for port’s uninterrupted operation. Port of Pietarsaari has previously inspected the structures above water, but needed information also about underwater quay structures and their condition.
VRT performed inspection for port’s vertical strucures and adjacent seabed. The inspection included over a kilometer of structures and the field work only took one day. The field team gathered detailed information about under and above water structures and the situation of the seabed at the same time. After the field work is done to perfection, VRT’s reporting team creates seamless overall view by combining the datasets from multibeam sonar and laser scanner.
Easy access to 3D data with Gisgro online service
The inspection results were delivered to Port of Pietarsaari via Gisgro online service. Gisgro is accessible via web browser without any additional software needed. The Port can examine the 3D data, see the observations by VRT’s licensed inspector as well as measure and get exact locations of the damages. This facilitates the planning of possible repairs and proactive maintenance. After receiving the results Port of Pietarsaari could react quickly for the most acute repair needs and the inspection results have an important role in making long-term maintenance and monitoring plans.
Business with VRT was easy, our expectations for timetable were taken into account and communication was great also during the field work. Flexibility and the visual presentation of the results via VRT BIM were determinant factors in procurement decisions.
